This depends A LOT in the person and it is a bit like asking about what your favorite band is.

I think it is hard to answer number 2, the importance, as it is impossible to understand the importance of a field you are not familiar with. Importance is also super relative, as you might find that medical physics is the most important because it helps save lives, while I might think it is important to understand what is dark matter. So I won’t try to answer that one.

The most exciting, in my really biased opinion, is to understand the universe. We are at a time where there is a lot of awesome experiments already going on or soon to start. Recently we discovered this weird thing called gravitational waves, which are ripples in spacetime that can be evidence of, for example, black holes crashing into each other.

So we are just starting to be able to measure those on earth, and combined with what we have learned and continue learning about particles, stars, and spacetime itself, we might be very close from unraveling some of the big questions about the history of the universe and how it came to be.

Fun, oh well, I think like everything the fun is partly on the work but also on the result of doing something. So I think, as long as you have an interest in the answer at the end of the road, all work in physics has the potential to be super fun! If you like machines and building stuff, doing experiments can be a lot of fun, and if you like mental puzzles and math, then the fun might be in understanding some beautiful abstract object that you can use to explain how nature works!
