After university I worked at a place called the National Physical Laboratory for nearly 7 years. I did optical measurements and satellite calibration – lots of lab work and practical data analysis. Then I left to start my PhD, and I’ve been doing that at Southampton university for about 6 months. So I’ve been paid to do science for nearly 8 years!

I guess I have been fully qualified for the last 7 years – although I think that while I was carrying out my PhD I would still have classed myself as a scientist as I was researching in a scientific mannet

I’ve been working at my current job for just over two years. I was a software developer before then.
